SadhanaOriental Meditation and Christian Prayer

Contemplation in action
 ーIn relation with othersー

[1]Starting with the heart of “waiting after doing
   everything that we can do”

It is not only when we are sitting (kneeling) in prayer that we are blessed with encounter and interaction with God.  We can also experience it in our daily activities.  And we experience it more fully if we have developed the skill to sit (kneel) and pray.

We sometimes feel a sense of exaltation deep in our heart and mind while we are working or getting ready for the next activity.  A sense of reverence and happiness sometimes arises somewhere beyond our control.  We can say that it happens when God visits us.  Here, let’s call such a state “contemplation in daily activities.”
“Work” in our daily activities does not go well in a cursory manner.  Therefore, when we are “working,” our mind is almost completely focused on making sure that the “work” goes well.  There is no room to think about God consciously.  But we sometimes feel that we are filled with simple eternal thoughts without any worries deep in our heart and mind.  In other words, infinite space and light arises deep in our heart and mind.
This does not mean that we are always blessed with this feeling.  We can sometimes experience such a feeling.  While we are experiencing it, we feel the joy and happiness, sensing that precious “state” is spreading.  This is far beyond the level of mere “working to help this human world on earth.”
We are sometimes blessed with the above feeling during simple tasks and work.  We may also be blessed with it when we are going through an inescapable trial.  And we may be blessed with it when we are vigorously helping our neighbors or friends.  To be filled with such exaltation and inspiration means that “contemplation in daily activities” has been established.
When we are experiencing such a feeling, we are receiving the blessing of God’s intervention.  Therefore, in some case, we can clearly feel that God is with us.
But this cannot be given all the time.  What we need to do is to wait after we do everything we can do.  Such blessing will certainly come, so let us wait in hope.
When we are filled with the above exaltation and inspiration, how we keep working and acting becomes loftiest and noblest.  We begin to try to put our heart in our activities, to work in a cordial and careful manner, and to make it so that it leads to the biggest happiness for relevant people.
-- Let’s keep working and acting for a good cause and in a good attitude.  Then, God will visit us some day.
Let’s do everything we can do and wait for “contemplation in daily activities” to be established.
